Cost of Attending University in Finland
Tuition Costs
Students who study in an English-taught program and are not citizens of the EU or EEA are required to pay tuition fees. For students at the bachelor's or master's level, tuition fees in Finland range from €8,000 to €20,000 per year, varying by university and program.
How to study for free in Finland
There are two ways to qualify to study for free in Finland without scholarships or Finnish citizenship. First, doctoral programs do not charge tuition, regardless of the student’s citizenship. And second, all programs conducted in Finnish or Swedish are free of charge regardless of the student’s citizenship.
Financial Aid
For American international students, there are three paths to access financial aid in Finland: through the US, through Finland, through your university, and through external organizations.
FAFSA
Unfortunately, there are no Finnish universities that accept US federal student loans.
However, two universities allow for the deferment of existing student loans. These are:
Sibelius Academy
University of Turku
External Aid
External aid can come in the form of grants, scholarships, or fellowships awarded by organizations other than the university or the government. These can be organizations that specifically target students in Finland, in a certain area of studies, or from a certain background.
