Meet with Liza

Liza Miezejeski | Founder

Founder Liza Miezejeski has extensive experience both personally and professionally in education and immigration. Going back to the earliest days of her career, her first internships were in the US public school system and with the Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS) in New Haven, Connecticut.

It was around this time that the looming fear of student debt, the pressure of American college admissions, and Liza’s desire to see the world reached its peak. So, when she heard a 2015 NPR broadcast about Americans pursuing their full degrees in Germany, where tuition was free, she was inspired.

By 2017, Liza was packing her bags and boarding a flight to Prague, Czech Republic, to pursue her bachelor’s degree in Socio-Cultural Humanities at Anglo-American University. While in Prague, her career continued to take shape. She worked as an English Second Language teacher, as well as advised aspiring international students and their families exploring their higher education opportunities in the Czech Republic and beyond.

In her third year at AAU, Liza joined the Student Council. The following semester, she was elected student body president and sat on the Board of Trustees Nominating Committee. Here, she not only grew as a guide for incoming international students from around the world, but she also gained insight into the internal processes and operations of a university. At the same time, Liza began sharing her advice on social media. What started as informal advice learned through her own experience evolved into creating informative videos viewed by millions. And, in a full-circle moment, she was granted the opportunity to be featured on NPR, as well as several other media outlets.

As graduation approached, her digital community continued to grow. AAU took notice, offering her a recruitment position. In her first two years, Liza helped 80 students move to Prague while also navigating her second international move. Balancing her personal desires and career aspirations, Liza found herself in Brussels, Belgium, where she began her graduate degree in Digital Media at Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Liza is living proof of concept. After graduating from the VUB, she secured a work permit in Belgium and became a communications consultant with the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service and Atmospheric Monitoring Service. But she found that she kept returning to the idea of creating a way to more directly help American students pursue affordable education and a feasible path to a life abroad and the idea behind Skola began to take shape.

Skola is the culmination of the work she began over 10 years ago. Skola allows Liza and her team to work with students on an individual level. The path to a life abroad is not “one-size-fits-all.” Taking into consideration each student’s academic interests, career ambitions, and individual character, the team can set each student up for long-term success.

Liza still calls Brussels home and will soon check another item off her immigration bucket list by applying for Belgian citizenship through naturalization.

Meet with Savanna

Savanna Stubbs | Business Development

Born and raised in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada, Savanna has always had a passion for travel. From a young age, she made efforts to expand her learning about the world around her.

Savanna’s first experience living abroad was for her undergraduate degree at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. It’s there that she studied Business Administration with a minor in marketing while on a soccer scholarship.

After graduating, Savanna wanted to pursue a more affordable education and a degree with a more globalized approach. After spending the summer traveling Europe and scouting potential locations to follow this international ambition, Austria stood out for the lifestyle and near-free tuition. That autumn she moved to Villach, Austria, to study a master’s in International Business Management at Carinthia University of Applied Sciences.

At Skola, Savanna hopes to share her recent experiences of moving abroad with other students going through the same process!

Meet with Georgeta

Georgeta Galusca | Business Advisor

Georgeta was born and raised in Moldova, located in south-eastern Europe. At 16-years-old she took a leap of faith when she applied to be an exchange student in the United States. At 17, she moved to Olympia, Washington, to complete her senior year of high school. This experience changed the course of her life, sparking her passion for studying internationally.

Georgeta then pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Tartu, Estonia. Here, she became an International Student Ambassador, helping other students apply to the university and assimilate upon arrival. During her bachelor’s program, she spent a semester at KU Leuven in Belgium.

Georgeta enjoyed KU Leuven and Brussels so much that she returned for her Master of Business Administration, specializing in Sustainability Management. After graduating, she remained involved through the University’s mentorship program, guiding international students to maximize their academic potential.

Through Skola, Georgeta now wants to give the support she once wished she had when moving across borders, adapting to new systems, and learning about new languages and cultures. Becoming an exchange student in the US changed her worldview, and now she hopes to pass on the message that it is not only possible but truly life-changing.

Meet with Francesca

Francesca O’Brien | Product Development

A lifelong New Yorker, Francesca proudly calls the vibrant NYC her home. With an itch to travel and explore from a young age, she got her first taste of education abroad during her month-long high school exchange to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

After graduating, Francesca embarked on her first of many JFK - EDI journeys, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Management at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. While there, she worked as a Student Ambassador and Mentor, helping incoming and prospective students—particularly internationals—acclimate to Scottish culture and navigate life in the UK.

Francesca further expanded her global perspective when she undertook a study abroad in her third year at SciencesPo in Paris, where she once again embraced a new academic system and fully immersed herself in French culture.

At Skola, Francesca is dedicated to guiding students through every step of their international education journey—from setting up a UK bank account and mobile plan to mastering academic writing in the French or UK education systems—and helping them thrive abroad.

Daniella Colocho | Intern

Daniella was born in San Francisco, California and raised in Columbia, Maryland, with roots from El Salvador. She has always known she wanted to study abroad and at the age of 19, she found that getting her full degree abroad was the perfect opportunity for her to fulfill that dream.

After finishing high school, Daniella spent a year in the US studying languages and social-political science before making her move to become an international student in Sweden. In 2021, she began her Bachelor in International Relations at the University of Gothenburg. During her Bachelor she took the opportunity to spend a semester in Madrid, Spain at the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria.

Daniella has lived abroad for over 4 years in both Sweden and Spain while simultaneously traveling and learning about different cultures, people, and languages. She is now taking her next steps to pursue a masters degree in 2026. “I have enjoyed studying and working within the EU so much and enjoy being in a multicultural environment. My goal is to be able to find a profession that combines these interests with my educational pursuits in economics, marketing, and international relations.”

With Skola, Daniella hopes to facilitate the process for incoming or prospecting students at different universities within the EU and with the varying permit processes that international students may face having gone through both processes herself.
