International Student Tuition in Austria

Public universities in Austria have nearly free tuition. Students who are not citizens of the EU or EEA must pay a study fee of €727 per semester at public universities. Additionally, all students are required to pay the student union membership fee called the "ÖH-Beitrag", which is €25 per semester. This comes to a total of about €1,500 per year in fees and tuition at a public university.

For other higher education institutions, such as universities of applied sciences, private universities, and university colleges of teacher education, the tuition fees can vary.

Financial Aid

For American international students, there are three paths to accessing financial aid in Austria: through the US, through your university, and through external organizations.

Information about funding available directly from universities can be found on the University’s website.

Note for Canadian students: If you are from Ontario, you can use OSAP at Austrian universities through an approval process. Our team member, Savanna, used this for her master’s degree in Austria.

FAFSA

At this time, there is only one institution in Austria that accepts Federal Student Aid from the US. This is the Katholische Hochschule ITI (the Catholic University of Applied Sciences, International Theological Institute).

Important Note: This institution has not yet been vetted by the Skola team. Therefore, at this time, we cannot recommend attending this institution, nor can we advise against attending until the vetting process is completed.
